I’m new to Verghese’s writing! Now that it’s over, I truly miss reading about every one of the characters and their interwoven stories. So descriptive and enjoyable. I was riveted from page 1.

Abraham Verghese’s description and language transpire in such a beautiful and compelling multi generational narrative all the while set in contrasting yet similar places as Scotland and Kerala. The historical accuracy made it all the more believable. And, like the coming and going of water, life in all its blissful and tragic details goes on for his characters. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed his novels.
The font is soooo small (6) it is very hard to read therefore not pleasant to read.

I enjoyed being taking on a journey to Kerala in India where we meet a family that is hit with a condition around water that we follow through generations from 1900 through 1977. What I liked most about the book is the lessons and the spiritual tone infused with biblical scriptures that transcends the human experience. There is tragedy, love, conflicts and even twists in this this book. You never know what’s coming up next. Also in this journey you learn about the art and spiritual practice of Medecine. I’ve learned so much. What I appreciated with this book as well is the Oprah’s podcast to follow the 10 sections through the book. It felt great to see the same passages that touched and impacted people. This beautiful book will make you see life differently and is wonderful story to follow. Great book and well written by a physician! It’s worth your time commitment. Don’t be intimidated by its length/volume.
