Description

The classic novella from Nobel Prize-winner John Steinbeck explores the secrets of man's nature, the darkest depths of evil, and the luminous possibilities of love.

Like his father and grandfather before him, Kino is a poor diver, gathering pearls from the gulf beds that once brought great wealth to the Kings of Spain and now provide Kino, Juana, and their infant son with meager subsistence. Then, on a day like any other, Kino emerges from the sea with a pearl as large as a sea gull's egg, as "perfect as the moon." With the pearl comes hope, the promise of comfort and of security....

As a young 13 year old reader, this book for me was confusing yet understandable. It had many exciting moments but some were unfinished and needed just a little more. For majority of the novel I did not understand fully what was taking place. It was short and the ending also needed more. It was too quick. Some parts in the book was too stretched and needed to be talked about less. Overall I give this book a 3/5. If you get to reading I hope you enjoy. Read thoroughly so you may understand the meaningful moments.
